“No More Blood, No More Tears” in Songs for Peace Contest

My song “No More Blood, No More Tears” has been accepted in the Songs for Peace Contest.  You can listen to it and vote for it at this link. (http://bit.ly/1tRP5Yx) The winner of the competition will be judged by a panel of experts, and the votes from listeners like you will also be counted.  So please listen to the song and I hope you will also vote for it.

Here are the lyrics of the song:

No More Blood, No More Tears

I’d like to make the bitter sweet
Trying to see the world complete
Sometimes I wonder when the job’ll be done
We’ll fix this globe for everyone.

(there’ll be)

No more blood, no more tears
An end to strife, an end to fears.
No more blood, no more tears
An end to strife, an end to fears.

Can’t you see we’ve missed the boat
We’re in the deep and must sink or float.
Some say that it’s always been like this
But, I don’t buy it and continue to wish
(for)

No more blood no more tears
An end to strife, an end to fears.
No more blood, no more tears
An end to strife, an end to fears.

The raging storm will one day end
The longtime foe will be our friend
In a bit of time we’ll see the light
Sort the mess, set everything right

(there’ll be)

no more blood, nor more tears
an end to strife,an end to fears.
No more blood, no more tears
An end to strife, an end to fears.

A Great Fasting Day

I do a full fast four days a month.  It is very helpful for me physically, mentally and spiritually.  Most people could benefit from fasting on a periodic basis.  In fact my Guru said that this is one of the secrets of long life.  You do not have to do it four time a month, like me; two times would be great.

Today I was doing a fast and noticed that I was completely functional in all respects.  I could work at the computer, and I could even go to the gym for a normal workout. This is good, because often when I fast my mental and physical strength is diminished. I am not myself, and I can’t really work effectively.  But today I was working even better than on a normal day, especially because I didn’t have to spend any time preparing food, eating and cleaning. My Memoir is Coming Soon

For the past two years I have been working on a memoir of my life on the spiritual path.  It looks like we will be able to publish it by the end of this year.  The title of the book is Brooklyn to Benares and Back. Last week I made a trip to lovely Vermont, a place which ranks in natural  beauty right up there with Norway and Switzerland. But I didn’t go there to admire the green mountains, I was searching in the P.R. Sarkar Archives for photos which will add some color and information to the finished book.   I struck gold and found some rare photos from the time when I was editing spiritual newspapers in the 1970s.  The book will also feature more recent photos as well such as the one below, which shows me with my colleagues, Dada Gunaragananda and Dada Krishnasevananda standing in front of T.E Lawrence’s fortress in the Jordanian desert in 2006:

As soon as the book is ready I will make plenty of announcements about it, so you are sure to hear about it.

Also, speaking of books, you can now buy the ebook version of The Wisdom of Yoga for only $3.50. You can order it on the book page  of this site

Music in Urbana

I have been performing at a number of locations in Urbana, Illinois. Most Saturdays you can find me at the Farmers Market on Illinois and Vine St., and on Mondays I sometimes perform at the Hootenanny at the Rose Bowl Tavern on Race Street. Lately I have be singing at the open mic at the Red Herring Restaurant on Oregon Avenue on Thursday evenings.  If you are in the area come on out and listen to the music.  Below are some photos from this week’s farmers market.

Do What You Can–The Video is Online

Back last September I released the CD Do What You Can, which featured a track by the same name.  That track was based on the story in the Ramayana in which a little squirrel tried to lend his support to a massive construction project by carrying some people to the construction site. If you haven’t heard the track yet and want to know what happened to that squirrel then you can watch a new video in which the song’s story is illustrated by my friend Justin Bernhardt.  The video is up on YouTube or you can view it right here!
