One more article in the yoga ethics series

Our daily conduct has a big impact on our capacity to meditate and to reach higher states of consciousness. That’s why the base of yoga is good conduct or the practice of Yama and Niyama.  I am in the process of writing a series of articles explaining these guidelines for good conduct, and just completed an article on Shaoca, explaining the role of cleanliness and purity in the quest for human perfection.  You can read the article by clicking this link.

Here is a short extract from the memoir that I am writing. I hope you like it.

1968 was a year of youth unrest around the world. Students brought Paris to a stand-still, there were demonstrations in Mexico, and demonstrations in the U.S against the war in Vietnam reached a new peak with a violent confrontation of police and demonstrators outside the Democratic Party’s national convention in Chicago in August.

All of this turmoil was certainly one of the main reasons that I was now on a quest to find something new.  Instead of going to classes at Columbia University where I was enrolled in the School of International Affairs, I wandered around in New York City hoping to uncover the next steps on my path. I am writing a memoir

A few months ago I began writing a memoir.  In the memoir I explain how I embarked on the spiritual path and describe my experiences in several different countries.  The story of how I started creating music is also covered in the memoir.  I have completed a first draft and am now working on a revision. I will post some excerpts from the memoir online, here, soon.

Ron Cannon, R.I.P.

A few days ago I learned that Ron Cannon, the producer of my CD “As the World Spins Around” passed way. Ron was a great musician who fronted a successful rock-a-billy group in the 1980s.  I met him a few years ago at an open-mic program at the Channing Murray Center on the University of Illinois campus. He sang harmonies and played guitar on my CD and did all the recording and arranging. He was truly a gifted musician and a good friend and I will miss him. And I am not the only one who will miss him, a memorial service for Ron yesterday was attended by two hundred friends, musician colleagues and his family.  Here is a photo of Ron at work recording the CD at our yoga center:
